Marriage in China - Cost for U.S. Citizens

Marriage in China can come true for many American citizens. As with everything else in the world, there are monetary costs to be aware of. We are going to explain what these charges are for your documents and fees before your spouse arrives in the U.S. and after. If you read information from the Internet about how much it will cost for a marriage in China and bringing a spouse to the U.S. you will find people saying up to $10,000. Well at this website we have the facts because we have walked the path ourselves.

Cost Before a Chinese Spouse Arrives in the U.S.

First, let's consider the cost before your spouse arrives in the U.S. Preliminary charges incurred before leaving the U.S., registering your marriage in China, and filing petitions with USCIS. This would include the following:
  • Civil documents must be authenticated and notarized by your local and state government.
  • These documents, along with your passport and visa, must be processed by the Chinese Consulate/Embassy which has jurisdiction over your residence and or the notary.
  • Registering your marriage to your Chinese spouse
  • Translation of your documents to Chinese.
  • After the marriage, legal documents translated to English and notarized.
  • At this point, you can begin filing necessary legal papers with USCIS.
This completes the initial documents and fees after your marriage in China and before your spouse arrives in the U.S. The cost for this first phase is about $895.00. The exact charge depends on the Regional Chinese Civil Affairs Office that will be processing your documents to register your marriage in China but this will be close.

Marriage in China - Fees After Entering the U.S.

We will now take a look at the costs after your Chinese spouse has arrived in the U.S.
  • USCIS will order a medical examination
  • Filing an Adjustment of Status and Permanent Resident
  • Finger printing
This constitutes the second phase of documents and fees. The cost after your spouse arrives will be about $1425.00. If your spouse is bringing a child under 14 years of age, add an additional $600.00. If the child is between the ages of 14 and 21, add $930.00.

Vaccinations and Immunizations

Whether your petitioning for a spouse, fiancee or child, here's a little hint. If they have records of vaccinations and immunizations in China, be sure to have them notarized and translated to English before they leave China. Certain vaccinations and immunizations are required for the I-693 Medical Examination for Permanent Resident or Adjustment of Status. In the case of a child there would be requirements for school, as well. Bringing the records from China would save time, money and unnecessary injections.

We hope this information will simplify and assist in your plans for marriage in China. Filing your own paperwork is not that difficult. The task can be much easier with the advice from people who have walked the road before you. It can also save you a ton of money.
